0:00 Hello and welcome back to your 15 day challenge. My name is Michael Montgomery, and today we're going to explore a concept that will either be very easy or very challenging, and it's all around how we can avoid burnout.
0:13 Now, burnout is this very tricky subject and it's a tricky subject because oftentimes we can't see it coming, we can't see it coming, it'll just hit us out of nowhere.
0:24 And what happens when we're burnt out is we start to lose the passion for real estate. So it's not just like we take a week off and we're back to normal and we're excited.
0:32 We start to lose the passion for what it is that we're doing. So we really want to avoid this. If we start to lose the passion around what we're doing, it becomes hard to claw our way back.
0:42 And I've had to do that in my career. It was very challenging. So we do want to ensure that we're building our life and building our week in such a way that we can avoid burnout.
0:52 So how do we do this? What we do, the two non-consecutive days off bur week. So for me, I tend to suggest Wednesday and Sunday, and that allows us to have Saturday for open houses or showings.
1:04 And then Wednesday and Sunday just tend to be two really good days. One is breaking up the week completely and one's the end of the week in case you're doing certain things with family and friends and things on Sunday.
1:13 So the first objection that typically comes up is, well, if I'm not going to be working as frequently, I'm not gonna sell as many homes.
1:19 But that's not the case. The opposite happens. You will actually sell more homes because right now, very likely you're just operating at this middle level of energy.
1:29 You know, you're kind of getting your work done, but there's still things on your to-do list that keeps getting pushed back and back and back.
1:34 But generally, you know, you feel like you're having kind of busy days. That's the sign of you being at this middle ground.
1:40 But what this is going to allow you to do is you're going to have times when you're not working at all.
1:44 So you're fully recharging your batteries, but then when you are working, you are going to be working at a high energy pace.
1:50 So what this does is you will still get the same amount of work done, if not more work done, because when you're working, you're going to be working at a higher energy.
1:58 And that's simply because you are going to get two days off. So you're Wednesday and Sunday. So your Tuesday night is going to feel like a Friday night.
2:06 Your Saturday night will feel like a Saturday night for most people. But that being said, you are going to have time for yourself.
2:13 So what is this going to enable us to do? Well, first off, we're going to avoid burnout, but it's also going to expand our horizons, which actually helps us sell more real estate.
2:22 We're going to go to different parks, we're gonna walk the dogs in different areas, we're gonna go to different restaurants, we're gonna try different activities.
2:28 The first few times you do this, you may just sit on the couch and do nothing, which is actually a really good sign that you're getting pretty close to burnout.
2:35 So this is extremely important for you if that's what you find yourself doing. But as time goes on, you're going to start exploring interests.
2:42 Now the only real rule is you can't do anything real estate related. So no prospecting or real estate related stuff such as like showings.
2:49 Now if what's coming to your mind is that, well, what am I supposed to do if a call comes in or if somebody needs to see a home?
2:55 Generally speaking, people will be able to wait a day. So I Want you you to try this and there will be the odd time where someone's going to call you on a Wednesday and it's going to be a lead out of nowhere.
3:06 Now, generally speaking, I will not be picking up my phone on a Wednesday. But that being said, if somebody leaves a voicemail and says, I need to list my house, can you please gimme a call?
3:15 I'm gonna call them right back. So there are the odd time where we are going to be working, but that is actually extremely rare.
3:23 You think it's gonna happen all the time on those days, but it doesn't. It's actually quite rare. So the rule is we can't do anything prospecting or real estate related.
3:31 Other than that, anything is allowed. And the other thing that this is going to do is during your time off, you'll probably be thinking and reflecting more.
3:39 So you're actually going to become a lot more of a thoughtful person. You'll probably increase your energy quite a bit when you are out selling real estate as well, because you'll actually get those days off.
3:48 These are things that real estate agents don't typically get. We feel guilty when we are taking days off during the week because everyone else is working and then we feel guilty when we have to work on weekends when everyone else gets to go outside and enjoy their day.
4:01 So you need to create two non-consecutive days off per week. So your task very straightforward. Open up your calendar, block off two days per week repeating, and you are not going to be working on those days.
4:14 Now, if you absolutely need to work on those days, allow yourself to work from say, 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM. So give yourself part of the morning, but then it's done at 10:00 AM So give yourself a few hours in the morning just to catch up on emails, handle any calls, but then it's done at that point in time.
4:29 That also works if you need to have a few hours on those off days, but ensure you are still taking the majority of those days off.
